Gratitude Changes Everything

Did you know that a regular practice of gratitude actually changes the brain’s wiring by enhancing mood, promoting feel-good brain chemicals, serotonin and dopamine, and reducing stress, depression, and anxiety? Gratitude doesn’t just have psychological benefits, research also shows that gratitude has a myriad of physical and social benefits, such as pain reduction, immune enhancement, improved sleep and cardiovascular health, and even healthier interpersonal relationships and communication.

As we embark on the next exciting journey of setting up roots and moving into our new clinic home on November 4th, I am reminded to pause and be grateful for all of the growth opportunities amidst the stress, extra work, and unpredictability that comes with starting up a new clinic in under six weeks! I am so very thankful to all of the amazing friends, family members, patients, and co-workers, including Dr. Julie Harden of OC Whole Family Wellness and Melissa Vance of Whole Body Health Team. This tribe has supported and guided me throughout my two decades of practice, leading me to this poignant milestone. By returning time and time again to the blessings and synchronicities offered, my mindset shifts out of scarcity and worry towards one of abundance and trust. Gratitude can be expressed in a multitude of ways, such as journaling, writing thank you notes, expressing appreciation for yourself, others, and what you have, meditating and simply being still in the present moment. I highly recommend cultivating a daily morning practice incorporating some of these gratitude exercises to start changing your brain, mindset, and nervous system for the better. A gratitude journal prompt can look like this:

One of my favorite gratitude journals is the Gratitude Journal for Women

Introducing my team

I am so very grateful to our incredible wellness team, Megan Gallardo and Mariah Guevarra, who have made this clinic transition possible by tirelessly working to integrate and update our scheduling and billing systems into our EMR system, Charm and supporting our providers and patients throughout this transition. In order to continue to provide comprehensive patient care support, moving forward please contact Megan through Charm or by phone with any administrative, scheduling, clinical questions, or prescription or supplement refills. She is the primary contact for triaging your care. Mariah is our go-to virtual clinical assistant via Charm for any questions you may have regarding laboratory tests and superbills. In addition, very big thanks to Klara Saunders, our marketing and social media manager. She is the one that beautifies these monthly blogs and posts eye-catching and educational content on social media to keep you inspired in your wellness.

Jill Brew, our wonderful wellness program coordinator has been an inspiring health coach and source of guidance for our wellness program members. She is also a referred provider and bio-meridian specialist offering bio-meridian testing to identify any functional imbalances that are often not detected by conventional lab work.

Farah Siraj is also one of our amazing referred providers, who will be offering lymphatic drainage and massage to enhance detoxification and reduce post-operative swelling and scar tissue.

Last but not least, I’d like to introduce you to our in-house wellness providers, Dr. Quan Nguyen, naturopathic doctor and meditation teacher, and Hannah Haus, medical manual therapist. I met Dr Quan over 30 years ago at a first aid and CPR class where we became fast friends and lifelong colleagues. He is heart-centered, knowledgeable, and one of the most compassionate doctors that I know, and I am so proud to have him as my associate. Dr. Quan is also very handy and helped us break down and pack up our office in a few hours!

With Hannah’s healing and intuitive hands, she will alleviate your aches and pains and help bring back optimal and functional movement and flexibility through her exceptional medical manual massage therapy and bodywork.

Grateful for my family

This is beginning to sound like a really long Oscar acceptance speech (ha!) but I want to also thank my husband, Mark, who has been with me from the very beginning of this journey, 31 years ago well before I started naturopathic medical and acupuncture school. He has been my partner through thick and thin when I was a fledging doctor 20 years ago seeing just a few patients a week as we were growing our family and juggling the demands of raising two young children and building our budding careers. Mark is a source of unconditional love and support and has been my biggest cheerleader in everything in life, especially with encouraging me to take the leap of starting my own practice. It only took 20 years :0

Chloe and Enzo, my kids, are my greatest loves and teachers, it is because of them that I continue to do the work to become the best version of myself and deepen my trusting relationship with God.

Thank you

Finally, I am deeply grateful to you, our patients, and our community! Without your dedication to your wellness and willingness to transform your health, we would not be here. Providing you with inspiration and guidance to be the healthiest version of yourself is absolutely our purpose. Thank you!

We look forward to seeing you and supporting you in your wellness journey at our new clinic location, 4063 Birch St, #200 in Newport Beach!

In wellness and gratitude,
